Showa Vertical

I was working as an architectural photographer in San Francisco when I found myself back in Kanazawa in 2017. I began photographing 20th-century residential towers that caught my eye, and processing them in the same highly artificial way I used for my day job, removing the vanishing-point perspective and then contorting the upper floors to re-establish proportion. Manipulating vernacular architecture in this way added a strange layer of perfection to decidedly imperfect structures.
